The Dayton Flyers will play their season opener Wednesday without their top player.

Redshirt senior forward Josh Cunningham will miss the game after injuring his wrist in practice Tuesday. Anthony Grant told WHIO’s Larry Hansgen before the game Cunningham’s status is day to day.

Dayton plays North Florida at 7 p.m. at UD Arena. Obi Toppin, a redshirt freshman who will make his Dayton debut, will start in Cunningham’s place.

Cunningham averaged 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game last season. He was Dayton’s MVP and is a three-time captain.
