Dayton Flyers beat VCU in A-10 final for second straight year

The Dayton Flyers claimed their second straight Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball tournament championship Sunday, beating No. 1 seed Virginia Commonwealth 3-1 in Kingston, R.I.

One week after a 3-2 loss to VCU at the Frericks Center, Dayton won 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19. The victory gives the Flyers (22-8) their 14th NCAA tournament berth. It's their 13th tournament championship and fifth in six years. Dayton beat VCU 3-2 last season in the final.

Jamie Peterson had 13 kills and 12 digs and was named most outstanding player of the tournament. She was named the A-10 Player of the Year last week. Maura Collins and Sierra Pla also made the all-tournament team.

Dayton, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the final by beating No. 3 seed Saint Louis on Saturday.

The NCAA bracket will be unveiled at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 1 on ESPNU.
