Dayton Flyers women win 10th straight game

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team won its 10th straight game, defeating Saint Joseph’s 59-44 on Sunday at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia.

Dayton (15-7, 8-0) sits alone in first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference with eight games to play in the regular season. It leads Virginia Commonwealth (12-9, 7-1) by a game and Davidson (13-8, 6-2) by two games. The Flyers play Davidson on the road in their next game Wednesday and host VCU on Feb. 16.

Dayton trailed Saint Joseph’s 11-9 after the first quarter but led 24-23 at halftime and took control with an 8-0 run in the third quarter.

Jayla Scaife led Dayton with 12 points. Erin Whalen and Jenna Giacone each added 10. Shakeela Fowler had nine.

Araion Bradshaw had eight rebounds and six assists. Dayton’s reserves outscored Saint Joseph’s 25-4.

Dayton shot 37.7 percent from the field and 40 percent (6 of 15) from 3-point range, while holding the Hawks (8-13, 2-7) to 35.7 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent (2 of 11) from 3-point range.

Dayton has shot 40 percent or better from 3-point range six times during its 10-game winning streak and ranks second in the conference in 3-point accuracy (34.5).
