Dayton Flyers freshman guard Luke Frazier who appeared in two games this season, entered the transfer portal on Monday, two days after Dayton’s season ended with a 71-60 loss to Memphis in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament.

In a text message to the Dayton Daily News, Frazier said he would be looking for the right fit with his next program.

Frazier, a 6-foot-5 guard from Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, had some health setbacks before the season and then underwent an appendectomy on Dec. 10 and did not return to practice until mid-January.

Frazier first saw the court for six minutes at the end of a loss at Virginia Commonwealth on Jan. 23, and he received his only other playing time in the final minute of a victory against Rhode Island in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament on March 4.

Frazier committed to Dayton in June of 2019. He was the first member of the team’s 2020 recruiting class. Koby Brea and R.J. Blakney, both of whom received extensive playing time as freshmen, followed him with commitments later in 2019.

As a senior at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, he averaged 22.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.2 blocks and 2.1 steals per game. He was named the Division II Player of the Year by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. Frazier finished his career ranked second in Lake Catholic history in scoring (1,665) and first in assists (307) and steals (188).

Frazier is the first Dayton player to enter the transfer portal this year. There are currently 707 players who are transferring or who have already transferred in 2021, according to VerbalCommits.com. Massachusetts center Tre Mitchell and Rhode Island guard Fatts Russell are among the big names from the A-10 who have entered the transfer portal in recent weeks. The Cincinnati Bearcats saw six players enter the portal in a three-day span earlier this month.

Frazier is the first Dayton player to transfer since Jhery Matos, who left the program last spring to play at Charlotte. A year earlier, Jordan Davis left Dayton after two seasons to play at Middle Tennessee State, and Frankie Policelli left after one season to play at Stony Brook. John Crosby, Xeyrius Williams and Jordan Pierce left Dayton to enter the transfer portal in 2018.

With Frazier’s departure, Dayton has two scholarships open for the 2021-22 season.
