Dayton learns first-round opponent in NCAA volleyball tournament

Flyers will play Marquette on Thursday

The Dayton Flyers will play Marquette in the first round of the NCAA volleyball tournament.

The bracket was announced Sunday night. Dayton will play its first match at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in West Lafayette, Ind.

No. 6 seed Purdue, the regional host, will play Illinois State at 7 p.m. in the other first-round match at Holloway Gymnasium.

Dayton (25-5) will make its 16th NCAA tournament appearance. It earned a tournament berth by beating Fordham in straight sets in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament championship on Nov. 21.

Marquette (26-5) lost in the Big East final to Creighton, which is a 14 seed in the NCAA tournament. This is Marquette’s 10th NCAA appearance.
