The Dayton Flyers offered a scholarship to Malachi Smith, a 2021 recruit from Bronx, N.Y., on Tuesday, according to a Twitter post by St. Raymond High School for Boys coach Jorge Lopez.

Smith is the brother of former Dayton point guard Scoochie Smith, who played for four NCAA tournament teams (2013-17) and was a member of the winningest class in UD history.

"He's my brother," Malachi told DavesJoint.Net in August. "He's tough on me. He tells my good and my bad."

Malachi Smith is a 6-foot-1 combo guard. He’s a junior at St. Raymond.

Dayton coach Anthony Grant visited St. Raymond on Tuesday to offer Smith the scholarship, according to a Twitter post by Smith’s dad, Elliot Rosado.

Smith took an unofficial visit to Penn State last weekend, according to Andrew Slater, and has scheduled visits to Rutgers, Fordham, Columbia, Fairfield and Robert Morris.

The 2021 class will be an important one for Dayton. If the roster doesn’t change next season, the Flyers will lose five seniors from the 2020-21 team: Jalen Crutcher, Jhery Matos, Ibi Watson, Rodney Chatman and Jordy Tshimanga.
