Abaev plays for SOH Elite on the Under Armour Association circuit. On May 2, Adam Finkelstein, of 247Sports.com, wrote Abaev is “playing up at the 17u level and he came out of session 1 as the UAA’s leading scorer. He impressed again this weekend, both with his sheer production, but also his long-term tools. The southpaw has terrific positional size on the wing, the athleticism to rise-up and dunk on people (as social media can attest to), a deep release point that makes his jumper almost un-blockable, and some sneaky passing potential to match.”
Dayton’s latest committed recruit in the 2023 class, Marvel Allen, also attended Calvary Christian for two years and played for Cilk McSweeney, who coaches Abaev.
“Shon’s versatility stands out,” McSweeney told 247Sports in December. “He’s an exceptional shooter from anywhere on the court. He can play the point guard spot with his exceptional passing ability for his size.”
Abaev is the third player from the 2025 class to receive a Dayton offer.
• EJ Walker, a 6-8 sophomore forward from Lloyd Memorial High School in Erlanger, Ky., received an offer in October.
• Alex Lloyd, a 6-4 guard from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Westminster Academy, received an offer in December.
