Dayton offers scholarship to top-50 recruit in 2023 class

Jayden Hastings fourth member of 2023 class to receive a UD offer

Jayden Hastings, a 6-foot-9 forward in the class of 2023, announced Thursday he received a scholarship offer from the Dayton Flyers.

Hastings, who will be a junior at Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep, ranks 43rd in the 2023 class, according to Rivals.com.

Hastings was one of the standout players at the Circuit League event in Dallas in May, according to Eric Bossi, of 247Sports.com.

“Hastings is a big man with length who can run and protects the rim,” Bossi wrote. “He’s going to be capable of playing with physicality at any level when he finishes maturing and made a few promising post moves.”

Hastings received offers from Penn State and Mississippi State earlier this month. South Florida, St. John’s and Iowa State previously offered him scholarships

In his announcement on Twitter, Hastings tagged Dayton assistant coach James Kane, who spent the three previous seasons at Iowa State, which offered Hastings a scholarship in September 2019.

Hastings is the fourth 2023 recruit to receive an offer from Dayton, following: Jayden Reid, a 5-foot-11 guard from Long Island Lutheran High School; Lawrent Rice, a 6-3 guard from Wayne High School; and Gabe Cupps, a 6-2 guard from Centerville High School.
