The Bonnies, who on the regular-season championship and tournament championship last season, received all 28 first-place votes. They ranked 23rd in the Associated Press preseason top 25.
Richmond, which received five votes in the AP preseason poll, was picked to place second and was followed by Saint Louis and Virginia Commonwealth, last season’s runner-up.
Following Dayton were: Davidson; Rhode Island; George Mason; Massachusetts; Saint Joseph’s; Duquesne; La Salle; George Washington; and Fordham.
Dayton was picked to finish third last season and placed seventh with a 9-7 record. Two years ago, it was picked third and won the conference championship with an 18-0 record.

In 26 seasons in the A-10, Dayton has finished better than its preseason position in the poll 12 times. It has finished worse 11 times. Three times, including two seasons in which it won the regular-season championship, it finished right where voters expected it to finish.

Dayton forwards Mustapha Amzil, who averaged 9.9 points per game last season in his first season, and Georgia transfer Toumani Camara, one of seven newcomers on the roster, were named to the preseason third team.
