Flyers keep PFL hopes alive with second victory in a row

The Dayton Flyers rallied from a 20-10 deficit in the second half, outscoring Stetson 13-0 in the last 19 minutes to win 23-20 on Saturday at Welcome Stadium.

Sam Webster kicked a 44-yard field goal with 3:43 to play in the third quarter. Then quarterback Shane Hamm, making his second start, scored on a 1-yard run to tie the game on the first play of the fourth quarter. Webster gave Dayton the lead on a 22-yard field goal with 6:06 to play.

Dayton’;s defense forced Stetson to punt with 3:42 to play. The Flyers then ran out the clock, giving the ball to running back Jake Chisholm five times on the final drive of the game.

Chisholm rushed 26 times for 96 yards. Hamm completed 11 of 18 passes for 122 yards. Derek Willits led the receivers with four catches for 83 yards.

Dayton (5-2, 3-1) has won two straight games since a 31-0 shutout loss at Butler. This victory followed a 24-7 victory at Marist.

The Flyers also remain perfect at home. They beat Kentucky State 46-3 and Drake 27-14 in their previous games at Welcome Stadium.

Dayton also improved to 3-0 against teams in the bottom five of the Pioneer Football League standings entering the weekend: Stetson; Drake; and Marist. The Flyers play Valparaiso (3-3, 2-1) in their next game at 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Welcome Stadium.
