Dayton to start series with American Athletic Conference team in November

The Dayton Flyers revealed another piece of their 2020-21 men’s basketball schedule Friday, announcing they will play Southern Methodist at UD Arena on Nov. 29.

It’s the first game in a two-game series. Dayton will play SMU at Moody Coliseum the following season in Dallas on a date to be determined.

SMU, which plays in the American Athletic Conference, finished 19-11 last season and 9-9 in the AAC.

The programs have played three times, most recently on Nov. 24, 2007, at UD Arena with Dayton winning 82-57.

Dayton lost the previous season at SMU, 53-48 on Nov. 18, 2006. The first meeting took place on Dec. 22, 1956, in the UK Invitational tournament in Lexington, Ky. SMU won 67-59.

Dayton also includes three games in the Myrtle Beach Invitational in South Carolina on Nov. 19, 20 and 22. Possible opponents are Charlotte, Loyola, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn, Pittsburgh and Utah State.

Dayton' will play a game Dec. 6 against Nevada in Reno, Nev. That game is part of a scheduling partnership between the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Mountain West Conference.

The Flyers will play Mississippi State on Dec. 12 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta as part of a four-game Hoopsgiving event.

A game against Mississippi in Chicago is also part of the schedule, but a date and venue has not been announced.
