Dayton beats Duquesne to finish regular season with 21-10 mark

Flyers will be the No. 3 seed in A-10 tournament

The Dayton Flyers continued their excellent play on the road, beating Duquesne 78-67 in the final game of the regular season Saturday at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

Dayton led throughout the second half but saw the Dukes climb within four points with 7:33 to play. The Flyers put the game away in the final three-plus minutes, outscoring the Dukes 10-3.

Obi Toppin led Dayton with 19 points. Ryan Mikesell had 17 points. Jalen Crutcher scored 16.

Dayton posted a 21-10 regular-season record. That's a seven-win improvement over last season. It finished 13-5 in the A-10 and will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. It was 7-2 on the road in the conference and 6-3 at home. It's the first time it has ever had a better road record than home record in conference play.

Dayton will play No. 6 seed Saint Louis, No. 11 seed Richmond or No. 14 seed Fordham at 8:30 p.m. March 15 in the quarterfinals of the A-10 tournament.

HALFTIME RECAP

The Flyers outscored Duquesne 15-7 in the last eight minutes to take a 37-29 halftime lead Saturday at the.

The game was tied at 22-22 when the Flyers took control. A layup by Trey Landers with 2:26 to play gave them their biggest lead of the half, 37-26.

Dayton shot 53 percent from the field. Duquesne shot 43 percent.

Jalen Crutcher led the Flyers with eight points. Ryan Mikesell scored seven. All seven players who saw action scored.

Dayton had a 20-12 rebounding advantage. The Flyers made 3 of 13 3-pointers. Duquesne made 1 of 13.
