Dayton to open against SEC school in Charleston Classic

Eight-team tournament bracket revealed Tuesday

The Dayton Flyers will open play in the 2023 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic against LSU at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

The bracket for the eight-team tournament was revealed Tuesday.

LSU finished 14-19 overall last season, including 2-14 in the Southeastern Conference. Dayton, playing in this event for the first time since 2017, finished 22-12 overall and 12-6 in the Atlantic 10.

The winner of the Dayton-LSU game will play the St. John’s-North Texas winner in the semifinals at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, on ESPN2. St. John’s is led by Hall of Fame and new head coach Rick Pitino. North Texas won the NIT last season.

The championship game is set for 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, on ESPN.

The finalist from the bottom half of the bracket will be Houston, Towson, Utah or Wake Forest.

Houston was a No. 1 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 and Towson finished 21-12.
