Josh Cunningham hit 1 of 2 free throws after the shot to cut the UMass lead to 84-82, but Unique McLean hit a jump shot with 12 seconds left to seal the victory for the Minutemen, who beat Dayton for the second time this season.
Josh Cunningham led the Flyers with 27 points. He played 47 minutes. Darrell Davis also played 47 minutes. Jordan Davis played 49 of the 50 minutes. Trey Landers scored 22 points, fouling out in overtime.
Jalen Clutcher had a shot to win the game at the end of regulation but just missed a short jumper.
Dayton lost its second straight game and falls to 10-12 and 4-6 in the Atlantic 10. UMass (11-13, 4-7) ended a five-game winning streak.

HALFTIME RECAP
The Dayton Flyers trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and faced a 35-28 halftime deficit Saturday against Massachusetts at the Mullins Center.
Dayton's star: Josh Cunningham made 6 of 9 shots and scored 13 points.
UMass star: Luwane Pipkins scored eight points in the first five minutes and finished the half with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

Foul trouble: Dayton's Jalen Crutcher picked up three fouls in the first half.

Big picture: UMass brought a five-game losing streak into the game, while Dayton had lost three of its last four games. The Flyers were trying to win at the Mullins Center in the regular season for the first time since 2004. They did win an A-10 tournament game at the arena in 2011.
First matchup: The Flyers lost 62-60 at home to UMass on Jan. 6. That was the start of a three-game winning streak for UMass. Luwane Pipkins scored 25 in that game. Jalen Crutcher led the Flyers with 14 points.

Looking ahead: Dayton plays Duquesne at 7 p.m. Wednesday at UD Arena. The Flyers lost 70-62 at Duquesne on Dec. 30 in their A-10 opener.
