Dayton women’s basketball team adds two transfers

“We are very happy to have Tiaera joining our family,” Dayton coach Shauna Green said in a press release. “She brings great size at the guard spot, versatility and a tradition of winning. She has the ability to be a lockdown defender and can play multiple positions for us. Tiaera will be a great addition to our program.”

Shakeela Fowler is a 5-6 guard who averaged 10.7 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds as a sophomore at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. She started her career at Illinois State and averaged 11.2 points per game as a freshman, earning All-Missouri Valley Conference freshman honors. She’s a graduate of Rufus King High School in Milwaukee.

“I am so excited that Shakeela is a Flyer,” Green said. “She is a great leader on the floor with the ability to facilitate and also score the ball in a variety of ways. I love the tenacity and toughness she plays with. She will thrive in our up-tempo offense.”

The Flyers lost four seniors from a team that finished 22-10 and won a share of the Atlantic 10 regular-season title before winning the A-10 tournament and advancing to the NCAA tournament. They also lost their one signed recruit when Sam Breen was released from her letter of intent. She committed to Penn State on Monday.

Green’s coaching staff will also have a different look next year. Kayla Ard left for a job at the University of Denver, and another assistant coach, Jeff House, is no longer with the program. UD announced the hiring of Ryan Gensler, who spent the past two seasons as a video coordinator with the Floirda Gators, as an assistant coach on April 25.
