Dayton women improve to 2-0 with victory at Toledo

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 60-42 victory Saturday at Toledo.

Dayton never trailed in the game. It led 17-6 after the first quarter and held Toledo to 15.4 percent shooting (2 of 13). The Flyers stretched their lead to 32-17 at halftime.

Shakeela Fowler led Dayton with 16 points and six assists. Erin Whalen had nine points and 10 rebounds. Araion Bradshawn had 10 rebounds and six points. Jayla Scaife had eight points. Dayton had a 53-28 rebounding advantage

Dayton has won two straight games in the series against Toledo after losing to the Rockets in 2016 and 2017.

The Flyers play one of their biggest non-conference games of the season at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they host No. 8 South Carolina. The Gamecocks opened the season with a 103-43 victory over Alabama State and play at No. 4 Maryland on Sunday.
