Dayton, Wright State placed in same section of NCAA volleyball tournament bracket

Raiders earn berth for first time in program history

The Dayton Flyers and Wright State Raiders would play in the second round of the NCAA volleyball tournament Saturday if they win their first-round matches against ranked opponents Friday.

The bracket was announced Sunday night. Dayton (22-8) will play No. 12 Marquette in the first round, and Wright State will play No. 16 Purdue. Both matches will take place at Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.

Dayton (22-8) will make its 14th appearance in the NCAA tournament, its second in a row and fourth in the last five years. It is 7-13 in the tournament.

The Flyers earned an automatic berth by beating Virginia Commonwealth 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 tournament championship. Dayton ranks 46th in the RPI.

Wright State (24-5) earned an at-large berth and will appear in the NCAA tournament for the first time. According to Wright State, it’s the first at-large NCAA berth for any program in school history. The Raiders rank 44th in the RPI.
