Brett Comer, one of the original members of Anthony Grant’s staff with the Dayton Flyers, announced Friday he’s taking an assistant coaching job at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.

Comer will work for former Dayton assistant coach Donnie Jones, who’s entering his fourth season as head coach of the Atlantic Sun Conference program. Jones spent one season (2018-19) at Dayton.

“I am looking forward to starting this next chapter of this incredible journey and getting to work!!” Comer wrote on Twitter.

Comer also wrote, “Thank you, Coach Grant, and The University of Dayton for allowing me to be a part of such a special place like UD. From the staff to the players, administrators and managers, the past five years has been unforgettable. The University of Dayton will hold a special place in my heart.”

Comer joined Grant’s staff in August 2017 as one of two graduate assistants. He was promoted to director of player development in 2019 and then to director of basketball operations in the spring of 2021.

“One of the BEST,” wrote Andy Farrell, Dayton’s recruiting coordinator and special assistant to the head coach. “Literally a rising STAR. Gonna be an ELITE Assistant Coach and future Head Coach. We are going to miss you but thrilled to follow all the successes bro!”

Comer’s new job takes him back to the conference where he played in college. He helped lead Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 in 2013. He finished his career in 2015 and ranks 26th in NCAA Division I history in assists (845).

Stetson finished 11-19 last season and is 39-51 in Jones’ three seasons.
