Prior to Maryland, he spent the 2011 season as the recruiting coordinator on Dayton coach Mike Tucker’s staff. Tucker retired after this season, his 22nd. He led the Flyers to the Atlantic 10 tournament championship. Golz is the fourth head coach in program history.

Golz is a native of Wadsworth, Ohio, and a graduate of Grove City College in Grove City, Pa.
“I would like to sincerely thank Neil Sullivan, Angie Jabir and the rest of the search committee for providing me with the opportunity to come back to the Dayton family,” Golz said in a statement. “I would also like to thank coach Mike Tucker, one of my coaching mentors. The opportunity to follow in the footsteps of a coaching legend is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I know the quality of people, students and players we will develop will honor the legacy he has established.”
