Manager Bryan Price said Monday he expected Feldman to go on the DL.
“I think it would be unfair to Scott and the club to put ourselves in a position where we wouldn’t know for sure what he was going to feel like coming out of the bullpen (before the game) and go through that,” Price said. “He really wants to compete. He’s been great. He’s dealt with it before. He’s pitched with it. He’s pitched beautifully with it. It was one of those things he couldn’t overcome.”
Feldman allowed five runs in the first inning. The Reds lost 6-1 and were swept in a four-game series by the Nationals for the first time.
NOTES: Wojo saves bullpen
Feldman is the seventh Reds starting pitcher to go on the DL this season. His next scheduled start was Saturday.
The Reds also optioned rookie outfielder Jesse Winker, who was in the big leagues for the third time this season, to Triple-A Louisville. They recalled pitchers Sal Romano, who will start the series opener Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Lisalverto Bonilla from Louisville.
