Football recruiting: Springfield’s Aaron Scott Jr. cuts down college list

He shared his thoughts on all 12 schools in an interview with Rivals.com.

That included calling Oregon his dream school when he was growing up and noting that Michigan is making a big push in the class of 2024.

Scott also described Ohio State as his hometown school and noted why he feels a connection with Notre Dame.

“I grew up watching (Ohio State) all of my life and that is my dad’s favorite school,” Scott told the site. “That is why I have the deepest connection with them. They want me to come and tell me that they really need me. They tell me that Ohio boys stay in Ohio.”

The Fighting Irish have made an impression thanks to the Miami Valley connection of head coach Marcus Freeman and cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens, who both played at Wayne High School.

“They know the background of living here and we all have been through the same thing,” he said. “That was a real connection because we grew up in the same city and we all know what we have gone through. Out of everybody, I feel like they will make sure I handle business and get to where I want to be at the next level.”

The 6-foot-1, 169-pound Scott had 23 tackles and five interceptions last season for the Wildcats, who made it to the Division I state championship game for the second straight season.

He returned two interceptions for touchdowns, was credited with seven passes defensed and made the Division I All-Ohio first team.

Next school year, Scott figures to join a group of more than a dozen Springfield players have signed with FBS colleges out of high school since 2016: Kordell Looney (Kentucky, Danny Davis (Wisconsin), Shane Ramey (Toledo), Cameron Hoelsher (Army), Antwaun Johnson (Bowling Green), Leonard Taylor (Cincinnati), Moses Douglass (Kentucky), Isaiah Gibson (Kentucky), Michael Brown-Stephens (Minnesota), Te’Sean Smoot (Jacksonville State), Anthony Brown (Kentucky), Shawn Thigpen (Bowling Green) and Javian Norman (Eastern Michigan).

Rivals ranks Scott the No. 6 player in Ohio for the class of 2024 while he is the No. 2 player in 247Sports Composite rankings for the state.

He told 247Sports in an interview last week he expects to make his official visits in June and verbally commit to a school in June or July.
