Former Bengals linebacker Jerome Schaffer has been sentenced to 180 days in jail for misdemeanor assault and indecent exposure, according to the Associated Press.

His attorney hopes to reduce the sentence to just probation in a hearing in late August.

Schaffer was arrested in February for a series of events that included him getting in a fight, attempting to break into cars and exposing himself at a church. He was reportedly on drugs during the incidents.

Multiple concussions have affected Schaffer according to his attorney. He called them a legitimate and serious issue. Schaffer has done an inpatient treatment program since his arrest and is said to be doing better. He played for the University of Cincinnati in college and then the Bengals in nine games in 2013 before being waived the following season.
