Former Dayton Flyers face off in European tournament

Oliver, Pierre will be teammates again this summer

Two former Dayton Flyers, both members of the 2014 Elite Eight team, faced each other as opponents in the final of the FIBA Europe Cup, a second-tier tournament featuring teams from around the continent.

Dyshawn Pierre’s team, Dinamo Sassari (Italy) beat Devin Oliver’s S. Oliver Wurzburg (Germany) 81-79 in the final game Wednesday after winning the first game 89-84. It’s the first Europe Cup championship for Dinamo Sassari.

Both players started for their teams. Pierre, who averaged 7.5 points in the tournament, led his team with 19 points on Wednesday. Oliver, who averaged 13.5 points in the tournament, had 12.

Pierre started his career in Germany and has played the last two seasons with Dinamo Sassari, which is located on the island of Sardinia.

Oliver also has played in Belgium, Israel, France, Slovenia and Turkey in his pro career.

Oliver and Pierre will be teammates again with Dayton's team in The Basketball Tournament, a $2 million winner-takes-all event starting in July.
