Elijah Weaver announced his commitment to Chicago State on Thursday after playing the last two seasons with the Dayton Flyers.

Weaver entered the transfer portal March 29. A 6-foot-6 guard from Cocoa, Fla., Weaver averaged 6.1 points in 40 games for Dayton. He made 15 starts.

Weaver, who started his career at the University of Southern California, has played four seasons of college basketball but has one season of eligibility remaining because the 2020-21 season didn’t count against anyone’s eligibility.

In Chicago State, Weaver joins a program that finished 7-25 last season under first-year coach Gerald Gillion after winning a total of 10 games the previous four seasons. It has suffered 13 straight losing seasons and has three winning seasons in 38 years as a Division I program.

Weaver was a four-star recruit in the class of 2018. He ranked 37th on ESPN.com’s top-100 list. Chicago State also added another former four-star recruit this month from the transfer portal: Wesley Cardet, the No. 65 recruit in the 2021 class, according to Rivals.com. He averaged 8.1 points at Samford last season.

Weaver is the 12th Dayton player to enter the portal since the end of the 2017-18 season. Here’s who preceded him: John Crosby (Delaware State); Xeyrius Williams (Akron); Jordan Pierce (Tennessee-Martin); Frankie Policelli (Stony Brook); Jordan Davis (Middle Tennessee State/Jacksonville); Jhery Matos (Charlotte); Rodney Chatman (Vanderbilt); Dwayne Cohill (Youngstown State); Luke Frazier (Ohio/John Carroll); Lynn Greer III (Saint Joseph’s); and Moulaye Sissoko (North Texas0
