Grant Basile, Wright State’s second-leading scorer last season, announced his commitment to Virginia Tech on Wednesday. He was also considering Notre Dame, Iowa State and Wisconsin.

Basile, an All-Horizon League second-team selection, entered the transfer portal March 22. He averaged 18.4 points per game and led the Raiders with 8.5 rebounds.

A 6-foot-9 forward, Basile cored 1,228 points in the last four seasons. He had the option of playing a fifth season because the 2020-21 season didn’t count against anyone’s eligibility.

Basile will join an Atlantic Coast Conference program that finished 23-11 last season and played in the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in six seasons and second season in a row under coach Mike Young, who’s now entering his fourth season.

Three players from Wright State entered the transfer portal in March. Tanner Holden, the team’s leading scorer, committed to Ohio State on April 2. Reserve forward James Mann has yet to pick a new school.

Wright State has added two players from the portal: Trotwood-Madison graduate and Missouri transfer Amari Davis; and Evansville forward Blake Sisley, a Missouri Valley Conference all-freshman team pick last season.
