Franklin’s Travis Lakins on major league debut: ‘A dream come true’

Travis Lakins called it "a dream come true."

The Franklin High School graduate made his major league debut Tuesday night for the Boston Red Sox against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park.

Lakins allowed one run and four hits while striking out two in 2 2/3 innings of relief in a 4-2 loss in the second game of a doubleheader.

"I've been playing ball since I was 4 years old and never experienced anything like this," Lakins told MassLive.com. "Never thought of being in this position. It's just hard to describe."

The 24-year-old right-hander was called up to the big leagues Tuesday. He was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA with Triple-A Pawtucket this season.

Lakins, who spent two years at Ohio State, was a sixth-round pick of the Red Sox in 2015. Originally a starter, Lakins has moved up quickly in the Red Sox system since moving to the bullpen last spring.
