"I've been playing ball since I was 4 years old and never experienced anything like this," Lakins told MassLive.com. "Never thought of being in this position. It's just hard to describe."

The 24-year-old right-hander was called up to the big leagues Tuesday. He was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA with Triple-A Pawtucket this season.

Lakins, who spent two years at Ohio State, was a sixth-round pick of the Red Sox in 2015. Originally a starter, Lakins has moved up quickly in the Red Sox system since moving to the bullpen last spring.
