Flyers could have three Quadrant 1 victories

The Dayton Flyers’ NCAA tournament resume got a boost Saturday even though they weren’t playing.

Georgia beat Memphis 65-62 on the road Saturday. Memphis ranks ninth in the Associated Press poll and 13th in the NCAA Evaluation Tool. It's a Quadrant 1 victory for Georgia.

Georgia ranked 59th in the NET entering the game and could move into the top 50 with its best victory of the season. That would then give Dayton its third Quadrant 1 victory because it beat Georgia 80-61 in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

Dayton (12-2) ranks eighth in the NET. Its Quadrant 1 victories are against No. 28 Saint Mary’s and No. 40 Virginia Tech. It has two Quadrant 1 losses: to No. 2 Kansas and No. 22 Colorado.

This is the second year the NCAA has used the NET and the new quadrant system. Here’s a quick glance at the four quadrants

Quadrant 1: Home game vs. teams ranked 1-30, neutral court game vs. teams ranked 1-50 or away game vs. teams ranked 1-75.

Quadrant 2: Home 31-75; neutral 51-100; away 76-135.

Quadrant 3: Home 76-160; neutral 101-200; away 135-240.

Dayton is seeking to return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2017. In ESPN’s Joe Lunardi’s latest bracket prediction, he has Dayton getting a No. 4 seed and playing Akron in the first round in Albany, N.Y.
