Corinne Thomas (Tecumseh), Maddie Frederick (Tippecanoe), Hayley Suchland (Northeastern) and Tatum McBride (Newton) are the All-Area girls high school basketball players of the year in their respective divisions for this past season.

Joining them are coaches of the year Ed Zink (Beavercreek), Jason Tincher (Bellbrook), Jacki Stonebraker (Versailles) and Mike Wiss (Minster).

A 5-foot-9 junior and the daughter of Arrows head coach Danielle Thomas, Corinne Thomas is the Division I player of the year. She averaged 23.3 points and had a career-high of 48 against Central Buckeye Conference newcomer Jonathan Alder. Tecumseh (19-6) has won three straight CBC Kenton Trail titles with Thomas in the lineup.

A 6-foot senior move-in from Arizona, Frederick averaged 15.8 points for the Red Devils and is the D-II player of the year. Frederick provided extra boost to a strong lineup for Tipp (25-3), which won a Greater Western Ohio Conference American North title and advanced to a D-II regional for the fourth straight season. She signed with Iowa State University.

A 5-8 senior, Suchland was among the state’s most prolific scorers (30.9) and is the D-III player of the year. McBride, a 5-5 senior, averaged 21.2 points and was key to Newton’s resurgence in the Cross Country Conference as the D-IV player of the year. A four-year starter, Newton was 72-25 in that span with four straight winning seasons. Prior to then Newton (17-7) had just three winning teams in program history.

Newton’s all-time career scoring leader (1,576 points) and like Suchland a Valedictorian, McBride signed with Lynoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University.

Zink (D-I) is the winningest girls coach in Ohio history with 770 career victories and is the only coach in Beavercreek’s 42-season program history. The Beavers (21-5) were one of three GWOC teams to advance to D-I district finals.

Tincher (D-II) guided Bellbrook (20-9) to an impressive run through the regional and into the state final four. Bellbrook was 8-7 before mounting a late-season resurgence and into its third state final four.

Stonebraker (D-III) oversaw a program that has dominated the Midwest Athletic Conference and been a state final four regular. The Tigers (28-2) lost to Columbus Africentric in a state final. That was their seventh state final four appearance since 2007 and third time Versailles has played for a state championship in the last five seasons.

Wiss (D-IV) led Minster (26-3) to an impressive defeat of favored Ottoville in another state championship. Also coming out of the MAC, it was the third state title for the Wildcats, all since 1998. As Minster’s baseball coach, he guided the Wildcats to a D-IV state championship in that sport last spring.
