Lt. Gov Husted to serve as honorary coach at Dayton Flyers spring football game

Husted was an All-American cornerback and kick returner for Dayton in 1989 when the Flyers won the Division III national championship, beating Union College (N.Y.) 17-7 in the final in Phenix City, Ala. His former teammate Dan Sharley, who was Dayton’s starting quarterback as a junior in 1989, will also serve as an honorary coach.

"Having Dan and Jon agree to be our Honorary Coaches show how much passion they both have for the University of Dayton," Dayton coach Rick Chamberlin said in a press release. "We are very blessed that Jon can find the time in his schedule to join us at the Spring Game. Dan was a record-setting quarterback while he was here and now he is setting another record by traveling farther than any of our other Honorary Coaches in all the years we have done this for the Spring Game."

Admission is free, and the first 100 fans will enjoy free ice cream.

The spring game will be broadcast on AM 1290 and News 95.7 WHIO. Larry Hansgen will provide play by play, and Chamberlin will join Hansgen in the booth for commentary. Husted will talk about his role in the spring game on Miami Valley's Morning News (1290 AM) at 8 a.m. Thursday.
