The store already is sold out of small and medium black Great Lakes shirts, which feature “Hamilton, Ohio” in gold block letters on the back. The large and extra large ones might be gone if West Side can beat Columbus, Ga., at 6 p.m. today.
Miranda Amey, a 14-year-old from Tamaqua, Pa., snagged one of the shirts before they sold out, even though she has no connection to the team.
“If I see a game where the team does really good, I usually buy that shirt,” Amey said. “The cute factor plays into it a little bit, too.”
Amey, who is at her fifth World Series, brought her friend Alex Podlesny to experience her first.
Also following the team — literally — are 11-year-olds Anthony Cavalier and Gino Guerrieri. Wearing Great Lakes hats, the Boardman, Ohio, residents have been showing up at the past few practices, helping collect all the home run balls.
The team rewarded their new fans with a pair of autographed balls after practice Sunday afternoon.
“These balls are sweet,” both boys said in unison.
“We hope they go all the way,” Cavalier added.
