High school basketball: 2 from GWOC are McDonald’s All-America nominees

Bryn Martin and Aniya Trent of Springboro are among the nominees for the 2025 Girls McDonald’s All-America team.

The 6-foot Martin leads the GWOC in scoring at 22.2 points per game and assists (5.4) while the 6-2 Trent is the league’s top rebounder (9.7 rebounds per game) and shot blocker (2.9).

Trent also leads the league in field goal percentage (51.8) and is third in assists (3.7) while Martin is second in blocks (1.4) and fifth in field goal percentage (50.8).

Martin is a University of Washington recruit, while Trent will play collegiately at Virginia Tech.

The Panthers are 11-2 overall and trail Fairmont by one game in the league standings.

The Firebirds won the first matchup between the teams 62-51 on Dec. 11, and they are set to meet again in Springboro on Wednesday.

Later this month, the final 2025 McDonald’s All-America team rosters — 24 boys and 24 girls — will be revealed, and the games are set to be played April 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The last girl from the Dayton area to make the McDonald’s All-America team is Bree Hall of Wayne in 2021.

She was the sixth, joining Alison Bales of Beavercreek and Brandie Hoskins of Chaminade Julienne in 2003, Samarie Walker of Chaminade Julienne in 2010, Kathryn Westbeld of Fairmont in 2014 and Maddy Westbeld of Fairmont in 2020.
