The Dayton Public League championship race looks like Dunbar’s to lose as January comes to a close.

The Wolverines are the last team without a league loss, standing at 7-0 in conference play entering the week.

They will put that perfect mark on the line this weekend with back-to-back games against the No. 2 and 3 teams in the conference.

First is a trip to No. 2 Thurgood Marshall, who is 5-2 in the conference, on Friday night. Then the Wolverines go to Meadowdale, who is 4-2, on Saturday night.

Dunbar has beaten both already, downing the Cougars 55-43 on Jan. 7 and topping the Lions 57-49 last Friday.

The Wolverines, who are 10-8 overall, have the league’s leading rebounder (Justyce Taylor, 10.3 per game) and assists (Moses Sanford, 3.9) while Jace Allen is second in scoring at 12.9 points per game.

Belmont senior guard Davion Porter leads the league in scoring at 14.9 points per game while Da’Marion Fleming of Meadowdale (12.4) is third and Taylor is fourth (12.3).

Allen is second in rebounding (6.1 per game) while Thurgood Marshall’s Norman Spearman is also in the top five in both scoring (11.8 points per game) and rebounding (5.6).
