High School Football: Five games to watch in Week 5

The first month of the season turns into the midway mark for teams around the Miami Valley this week. Here are the top five games on the schedule for Week 5.

Franklin (4-0) at Valley View (4-0)

It doesn’t get much better than this one. The Wildcats have scored 13 more points in the first four games and given up 11 fewer than the Spartans.

Revenge will rest on the home side in Germantown after Valley View lost 41-8 in Franklin last season. It's the Touchdown 7 Arbys Game of the Week.

Fairmont (4-0) at Beavercreek (4-0)

Another unbeaten battle for the Firebirds, who keep finding ways to win. Jesse Deglow scored four times as Fairmont rallied from 21 points down to beat Springboro 40-38.

The Beavers are averaging 42 points a game in the first four weeks and riding the strong legs of Kaden Wenger. The senior fullback rushed for 319 yards and three touchdowns last week against Lebanon.

Don’t be late to this one, both teams will keep the clock moving with a ground attack. Fairmont has thrown it five times in the first four games, Beavercreek has attempted 10 passes.

Springboro (1-3) at Centerville (4-0)

The week kicks off with an interesting GWOC showdown on Thursday night. Centerville’s Brent Ullery coaching against his Dad. Ron Ullery is an assistant for the Panthers who coached his son at Centerville when he was the Elks head coach.

Brent is a perfect 4-0 at his alma mater, including a win at previously unbeaten Springfield last week.

Springboro comes off a frustrating loss at Fairmont. Senior quarterback Cameron Roundtree threw two touchdown passes and ran for 102 yards in a losing effort.

Miami East (3-1) at Bethel (4-0)

A showdown in the Cross County Conference featuring two teams with different styles. Bethel is averaging 45 points while the Vikings lead the league in the fewest points allowed.

Madison (2-2) at Oakwood (3-1)

Oakwood’s only loss was in overtime at Carlisle two weeks ago when the Lumberjacks missed an extra point. Madison snapped a two-game skid with a 47-0 win over previously-unbeaten Preble Shawnee last week.
