Shawnee (1-1) hadn’t beaten the Red Devils (0-2) since 2015.

Tippecanoe joined the new Miami Valley League this season and expects to play a nine-game conference schedule next fall — meaning the annual matchup with Shawnee is likely over, said Braves coach Rick Meeks. The two teams were rivals in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division, combining for six titles since 2007. Tippecanoe joined the Greater Western Ohio Conference in 2016, but kept scheduling Shawnee as one of its non-conference opponents.
“This was it, we won’t play them any more,” Meeks said. “This was our last shot at them. They got us pretty good the last three years after we had dominated them for several years. It’s good to get this last win and go out on a winning note.”
Offensively, the Braves racked up 530 yards of total offense and punted just once. They also went 6-for-9 on third down.
Shawnee senior quarterback Robie Glass had 110 yards rushing on 16 carries and was perfect through the air, going 9-for-9 for 178 yards passing.
“He can throw the ball too and we’ve got some receivers that can do some things,” Meeks said. “We’ve got two big backs and a big offensive line.”

Braves senior running back Jaden Hall rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns, while Guyer rushed for 73 yards. Dual threat junior wide receiver/quarterback Drew Mitch caught six passes for 105 yards and rushed for 103 yards on two carries.
Red Devils quarterback Jackson Subler rushed for 38 yards and two TDs on 15 carries. He also threw for 145 yards.
“We knew Glass is a great athlete and obviously a great quarterback,” said Tippecanoe coach Matt Burgbacher. “He threw the ball well tonight and the two running backs ran hard. It was kind of a continuation of what we saw last week, we couldn’t get that stop when we needed it … We were just very inconsistent in all three phases of the game.”
Guyer’s first TD gave the Braves a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but Subler responded with a 38-yard TD run to make it 7-6. Hall followed with 1-yard TD run to make it 14-6.
A 1-yard score by Cade Beam pulled Tippecanoe within two points at 14-12 with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Glass scored on an 8-yard run on Shawnee’s next possession to make it 21-12.
After a Shawnee fumble, the Red Devils’ Tyler Carlson scored on a 1-yard run to make it 21-18 at the half.
The Braves broke the game open with 21 straight points — including two TD runs by Guyer and another by Hall — to start the second half, taking a 42-18 with 11:03 remaining.
Subler scored on a six-yard run with seven minutes remaining, but the Red Devils wouldn’t get any closer to their former Central Buckeye Conference rival.
“I told the kids offensively it feels like the only team that can stop us offensively is us with turnovers,” Meeks said. “We’ve got to get rid of those. We can be more consistent on defense and offensively if we can get rid of the turnover thing, we have the potential to be pretty good.”
The Braves travel to Welcome Stadium in Dayton next week for a matchup against Thurgood Marshall. It was important to bounce back after falling to Greenon in Week 1.
“I don’t know if it was a must-win, but 1-1 is definitely better than 0-2,” Meeks said.
Tippecanoe is 0-2 for the first time since 2005. The Red Devils host Fairborn next week in an MVL crossover game.
“There’s only one way to get this fixed and that’s to show up tomorrow and get back to work,” Burgbacher said.
