Beavercreek will hire Aric Seilhamer as its next varsity girls basketball coach, pending school board approval, Athletic Director Brad Pompos announced Wednesday.

Seilhamer, a 1996 Beavercreek graduate, will replace Ed Zink, who announced May 16 he’s retiring after 46 seasons. Zink is the only girls basketball coach Beavercreek has had since the sport was first sanctioned by the OHSAA in the 1975-76 season and he’s the winningest coach in Ohio girls basketball history.

When he retired, Zink said he hoped Beavercreek would consider Seilhamer, his assistant coach for the last 10 years, for the head coaching job.

“He was with the boys program for a while,” Zink said, “and then I convinced him to come over with us, and he’s been with us as our JV coach for a few years and he’s been my assistant for a few more, and I just think he deserves that opportunity.”

Seilhamer has taught and coached in the Beavercreek School District for 20 years, Pompos wrote in his announcement on Twitter. Seilhamer is currently a teacher at Ankeney Middle School.
