“Why not play one more game?” reasoned Gibson, who graduated in December with a degree in criminal justice and now works for Kohl’s in security. “I don’t know what I really want to accomplish, but I’m definitely going through some football withdrawal.”
Some 90 players from 14 schools around the state are participating. For some who might still harbor dreams of getting paid to play the game they love, it’s one last chance to get noticed.
Gibson, who at 6-foot-2 and 270 pounds does not measure up to NFL lineman standards, would jump at the chance to play in the Arena Football League, for example, or one of its offshoots.
“I kept working out because you never know what could happen,” Gibson said. “I definitely didn’t want to become one of those guys who stopped playing and got out of shape. I would play arena football in a heartbeat. I would think that would be the most fun experience.”

• Mikaela Ruef (Beavercreek), a versatile 6-foot-3 wing player, appeared in 23 games as a freshman on the Stanford University women's basketball team that went 36-2 and lost to Connecticut in the national championship game in San Antonio this week. She played a total of 62 minutes for the talent-laden Cardinal, scoring 19 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and committing 14 turnovers.
• Interesting that the second-team safeties during Ohio State's spring football sessions have been C.J. Barnett (Northmont), once a cornerback prospect, and Zach Domicone (Beavercreek), a former high school quarterback. Barnett will be a true sophomore this season, Domicone a redshirt sophomore.
