Springfield, Southeastern games cancelled in Week 3

Two games are latest in a series of postponements around the state early this season

For the second straight week, Springfield High School’s football game has been cancelled because of COVID-19 issues with the opponent, and Southeastern High School also won’t play at Fairbanks on Friday because of COVID-19 issues on the Trojans roster.

After rallying late in the fourth quarter to beat Saint Ignatius 24-20 in the season opener, Springfield was unable to play at Fairfield in Week 2 and will not play at Trotwood-Madison this Friday.

Trotwood-Madison announced its program was “on pause” until Sept. 6, and its junior varsity and varsity games this week against Springfield were cancelled. Trotwood-Madison opened the season with an 18-0 loss to Winton Woods and then lost 35-0 to Fairmont.

Springfield is hopeful of finding a new opponent, Athletic Director Mike Dellapina said.

Southeastern (1-1) lost 21-14 at home to Worthington Christian in its opener and then won 30-6 at Ridgemont.
