Wright State’s road to the NCAA tournament will likely lead through Indianapolis for the next three years.

The Horizon League announced Friday it will hold the semifinals and finals of its men’s and women’s conference tournaments at the 6,800-seat Indiana Farmers Coliseum in the Indiana state capital from 2020-2022.

The new site is on the Indiana State Fairgrounds north of the city center and southeast of Butler’s famous Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Detroit has hosted the conclusion of the men’s tournament the last three years and the women’s tournament the last two years.

Both the men’s and women’s tournament semifinals and finals will be at Little Caesars Arena on March 5-6 in an event that’s been billed, “Motor City Madness.”

Quarterfinals have been held on campus sites the past three years, and that will continue this year and through at least the life of the new contract between the HL and Indianapolis.

The men’s tournament has been held at numerous sites over the years, including six times at the Nutter Center.

UD Arena also hosted the tournament from 1989-91 when the Flyers were members of what was then known as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. Dayton won the 1990 tournament.

The Wright State men won the tournament in 2007 and ’18 while losing in the championship game five other times.

The Raiders women won the 2014 tournament, which was held in Green Bay, Wisc., and lost in the final in 2005, ’08, ’15 and ’18.

The winner of the tournament gets the league’s automatic bid for the NCAA tournament.
