Hunter Greene’s pro baseball education continued Thursday with another short outing for the Dayton Dragons.

Facing the Burlington Bees, the young righty retired five batters on the afternoon before being removed with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second.

In his fifth start of the season, Greene allowed two runs on three hits and walked four Bees, lowering his season ERA to 13.97. He struck out one.

The Reds' 2017 No. 1 draft pick threw 55 pitches, 29 for strikes. (He was on a pitch count of 65 in his previous start.)

Neither inning was clean for Greene, who allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base (via walk and base hit) before retiring three in a row in the first inning.

Julio Garcia led off the Bees’ second with a home run, and Brandon Marsh drove in Burlington’s second run with a single later in the inning.

Greene was lifted after walking Torii Hunter Jr. to load the bases with two outs, and reliever Austin Orewiler retired Spencer Griffin on a fly ball to end the inning.

Greene has allowed two runs or more in four of his five starts as the Reds slowly bring him along in his first full season of pro ball.
