Jay Minton will be working the sidelines in the Miami Valley again this coming football season, but that job will be on Saturday afternoons instead of Friday nights.

The longtime Wayne High School coach is joining Rick Chamberlin’s staff at the University of Dayton.

Minton resigned as Wayne's Athletic Director in May . He accepted a teaching position at Weisenborn Junior High School but then decided he couldn't adequately perform the job as head football coach while working in another building.

Veteran assistant coach Roosevelt Mukes takes over after more than 25 seasons as the Warriors assistant coach.

Minton will work with tight ends in his part-time role with the Flyers. He is latest in a long line of former local high school coaches joining the UD staff.

“We are very fortunate to add coach Minton to our staff,” Flyers head coach Rick Chamberlin said. “He is a high quality individual and a coach that knows how to win.”

Minton came to Wayne from South Florida in 1998. He turned the Warriors into a Division I state power. Minton’s teams never won a state title, but they finished second four times (1999, 2010, 2014 and 2015).

Former Yellow Springs Athletic Director Nathan Baker was approved this week as the new AD at Wayne.
