Ohio State Buckeyes win second Big Ten title in Greg Beals era

The Ohio State Buckeyes became the lowest seed to win the Big Ten Conference baseball tournament, beating Nebraska 3-1 in the final Sunday at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.

It's the second Big Ten title in nine seasons for Springfield native Greg Beals, a 1988 Kenton Ridge High School graduate. He also guided the Buckeyes to the championship in 2016. They will play in the NCAA tournament for the third time in four years. The 64-team bracket will be unveiled at noon Monday on ESPNU.

The seventh-seeded Buckeyes (35-25) beat No. 2 seed Michigan 2-1 on Wednesday and then beat No. 6 Maryland 3-2 on Thursday. They lost 9-6 to No. 4 Minnesota on Saturday but beat Minnesota 8-6 in an elimination game Sunday before winning the title against No. 5 Nebraska.

Beals improved his career record at Ohio State to 297-228-1. His overall record, counting nine seasons at Ball State, is 540-430-1.
