Fancher and Colombi competed for the starting job in the preseason. Marshall coach Charles Huff said it was a close battle.
“Cam Fancher has GREATLY improved,” Huff said in August. “Going to go with Experience!”
Fancher saw more action in Marshall’s opener, a 55-3 victory against Norfolk State. He completed 2 of 3 passes for 27 yards and threw a 12-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. He ran three times for 60 yards.
Springfield graduate Isaiah Gibson, a backup defensive lineman, had two tackles and a quarterback hit against Notre Dame. He’s a redshirt sophomore who spent the last three seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats before entering the transfer portal last December.
Marshall’s roster also includes: Centerville graduate Chase Harrison, a freshman who was one of six quarterbacks to receive playing time in the opener; and Lakota West graduate Steven Faucheux, a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman who spent his first two years in college football at Purdue.
