The responses probably were not too surprising to golfers familiar with the country club courses.
The 15th hole at NCR Country Club edged No. 2 at Moraine Country Club for the most difficult par 3 with Walnut Grove Country Club’s uphill 17th coming in third and NCR South’s No. 13 getting the fourth most votes.
Not surprisingly, all four are lengthy holes. NCR’s 15th measures 229 yards from the tips, Moraine’s No. 2 is 221 yards, the 17th at Walnut Grove is 209 and NCR’s 13th is 205.
As usual, Walnut Grove’s No. 11 was judged the toughest par 4 in the vicinity. The 444-yard hole requires an accurate tee shot into an alley of trees to have any chance at par. The second shot to a raised green is no picnic, either.
The 430-yard 15th hole at Sycamore Creek Country Club received the second most votes in the par 4 category while the tree-lined 454-yard starting hole at NCR South was third. Sycamore Creek’s 406-yard No. 9 was fourth in the voting and Heatherwoode’s 16th was next and followed in order by No. 16 at NCR South and No. 17 at Yankee Trace (aka Legend No. 8).
In the par 5 category, NCR South’s 556-yard yard fifth hole was a runaway choice. The narrow view from the tee can cause accomplished golfers to overcook the drive and send the ball rattling in the trees.
Sycamore Creek’s 582-yard 13th hole received the second most votes with Beavercreek Golf Club’s 562-yard 11th coming in third ahead of Sugar Valley’s uphill dogleg No. 11 and the 15th at Reid Park in Springfield.
Holes at Springfield Country Club (4), NCR North (8), Dayton Country Club (8 and 18), Miami Valley Golf Club (12), Pipestone (5), Country Club of the North (8 and 18), Twin Base Golf Club (15) , Piqua Country Club (6), Meadowbrook at Clayton (4) and Wildwood (3) also received votes.
Golfing for Veterans
City Barbeque and the Dayton Warriors Softball Team are co-sponsoring seven golf tournaments to raise money for the October 5 appearance of the USA Patriots (formerly Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball team) at Wright State University. The softball event benefits Fisher Houses at Wright-Patterson AFB and the Dayton VA, Honor Flight-Dayton, Combat Outpost Robinson, Volunteers of America Homeless Shelter and USA Patriots Kid’s Camp.
Beavercreek Golf Club will host golf outings on May 11, May 24, June 11 and Oct. 4. Locust Hills Golf Club near Springfield will host tournaments on June 21 and July 21 and Rocky Lakes Golf Course hosts golfers on Sept. 21.
Memorial Tournament set for May 27-June 2
The PGA Tour’s annual Memorial Tournament will be held May 27-June 2 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin.
A patron badge for the week costs $185. One can purchase three tickets for the practice rounds Monday-Wednesday at the gates for $35 (cash only). All three tickets can be used the same day or one each day.
