Michigan sweeps Mid-East Cross Country Championships

Michigan swept all three team races of the 32nd annual Mid-East Cross Country Championships at the Kettering Indian Riffle Park on Saturday.

Michigan won the girls team title (35 points), then the boys (32) and also captured the combed team title (67).

The 5K (3.1-mile) event annually draws the top senior cross country runners from Ohio and neighboring states. This year there were 12-member girls and boys teams from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

Madeline Rehm (White Lake Lakeland High School, Mich.) was the girls individual winner (18:25.30) and Brennan Butche (Mississinewa High School, Ind.) the boys race (15:58.30).

The girls team scoring was Michigan (35), Ohio (42), Indiana (72) and Illinois (99). The boys team scoring was Michigan (32), Indiana (43), Ohio (63) and Illinois (104).

Placing among the top 10 girls were Ohio teammates Gracie Sprankle (second, 18:30.30), Kaylie Kenne (forth, 18:34.00) and Jenny Seas (eighth, 18:46.30).

The Ohio boys top 10 placer was Jacob Harris (fifth, 16:06.50).

The event is sponsored by the Greater Dayton Track and Cross Country Officials Association and the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
