On social media, that fact slowly dawned on media and on Ohio State fans as the gap widened on the scoreboard. A 35-17 halftime deficit became a 52-24 defeat on Monday night in Miami, Fla.

Here’s a roundup of of the reactions:
That was a butt-whuppin. If Mac Jones had been a three-year starter who knows what records he would have put up at Alabama. Impressive to say the least, firing off all those weapons. @OhioStateFB defense AND offense rarely had answers tonight.

Can’t deny Alabama’s greatness. Also can’t deny that college football has become predictable and boring. When only two or three teams have any hope of winning the natty, interest wanes. CFP powerbrokers need to find a way to even the playing field a bit.

That Alabama squad is absurd.

Hope tonight doesn’t take away how Ohio State fans feel about this team. They fought to even have a season at all. Played the entire back half of the year with COVID against teams not as shorthanded, annihilated Clemson and finished second in the country. Pretty good.

Notre Dame lost by 17....where are the Ohio State Fans that loved to rail on them for not belonging?

Also worth noting: Saban has six national titles at Alabama. This is the first one since the 2009 one in which the Tide didn't lose a game.

Not even a question, this was his best team.
I say this without irony or sarcasm:

If you are an Ohio State fan, forget about the score and just try to enjoy watching Fields for the last time. He’s the best QB in school history (in my book) and there’s no guarantee we’ll see another like him.
This game is playing out like the entire season ... Bama. Lots of people clamoring for expansion and I get it - can talk about access and process from every angle for hours - but the reality is, the number of teams at THIS level? Well, right now it’s one.

Can't beat them, if you don't stop them. Bama finishes with 621 yards after going into the fetal position for most of the fourth quarter. pic.twitter.com/ohyfKe18jN

Nick Saban is the best to ever do it. And I can't even work up any hate for this particular Alabama team. They generally showed up, shut up, and destroyed their opponents. Ohio State was outmanned but even at full-strength, it was gonna be a real tall order.

Pending final rankings, Alabama will have beaten teams currently ranked No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 7 and No. 9 ... by an average of 19.2 points (pending rest of Ohio State game) and putting up 50+three times and 40+ another time.

During a season that included games against 11 SEC teams and the combination of Notre Dame and Ohio State, Alabama finished the season with an average scoring margin of 49-19.

Crazy.
