Hampton was one of three finalists for the award, which was part of a promotion celebrating the NFL's 100th season. His wife, Deborah, and sons, Jaydon and Jordon, joined him onstage after the announcement was made, WABC reported.
The other finalists were Matt MacMillan, a Philadelphia Eagles fan from Delran, New Jersey; and Hannah Pearson, a Detroit Lions fan from Birmingham, Alabama.
Hampton was in Nashville, Tennessee, when Hall of Fame defensive tackle “Mean” Joe Greene announced him as the winner. The ceremony took place moments before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell officially opened the NFL draft.
