The Flyers offense didn’t waste any time finding the end zone on the opening drive of the game. Redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Cook completed three straight passes, the third to fifth-year senior tight end Adam Trautman for a 28-yard touchdown.
Cook came right back to lead the offense on another scoring drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Ryan Skibinski who was wide open in the end zone.
Cook was a spectator the rest of the afternoon. He finished up 5-of-5 passing for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
Redshirt sophomore Tyler Vincent led the ground game with 111 yards and two TDS on only seven carries. That included a 55-yard touchdown run on the final play of the game.
The big play from the defense came in the first half when safety Matt Clifford intercepted a Will Bobek pass to stop a drive.
Dayton’s three quarterbacks completed passes to 11 different receivers on the day.
“It went the way I thought it would,” Chamberlin said. “Our offense has been very good all spring with not just veterans, but talented veterans making plays.”
The Flyers will open the season with back-to-back road games at Illinois State and Robert Morris before playing the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21, against Duquesne.
