Ohio State recruit Maxwell Moldovan used five birdies and a hole in one Thursday to return to the top of the leaderboard in the 113th Ohio Amateur Championship at Moraine Country Club.

Moldovan, a rising senior at Green High School in Uniontown, shot a 4-under-par 67 in the third round to grab a share of the lead with Luke Campbell heading into Friday’s final round.

Moldovan and Campbell are both at 5-under 208 through 54 holes. Campbell, the second-round leader from Whitehouse, near Toledo, shot a third-round 71.

Moldovan, a two-time Division I state high school champion, opened with a bogey but caught fire midway through the front nine with a three-hole stretch of birdie-ace-birdie on his way to a 3-under 33.

Moldovan and Campbell, who played collegiately at Florida Atlantic, lead Scott Anderson of Columbus by one shot. Anderson carded a 5-under 66, the low round of the day.

Centerville’s Pete Samborsky, recent Lakota East grad Kyle Schmidt and University of Cincinnati golfer Clay Amlung are tied for fourth, four shots back at 212. Samborsky, the former golf coach at Wright State, shot an even-par 71. Schmidt, who will play collegiately at Dayton, carded a 70.

Two-time Ohio Am champ Robert Gerwin II of Cincinnati and Andrew Bailey of Cleveland are tied for seventh at even par.
