Ohio State football standout J.T. Tuimoloau was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.

That qualified as one of the least-surprising choices in quite some time after the sophomore defense end was a one-man wrecking crew in the Buckeyes’ 44-31 win at Penn State on Saturday.

He created a pair of interceptions early in the game, first batting a ball that was caught by teammate Zach Harrison, then picking off a pass himself on the next drive, but that was just the beginning.

In the fourth quarter, he caused and recovered a fumble by Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford then picked off Clifford again and returned it for a touchdown to put the game away.

Tuimoloau ended up with six tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Tuimoloau was also named national defensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

He is the 14th Ohio State player to win one of the Camp player of the week awards and first since quarterback C.J. Stroud last November 20.

Michigan running back Blake Corum and kicker Jake Moody were named Big Ten players of the week on offense and special teams, respectively, while Iowa kicker Drew Stevens was named freshman of the week.
