Ohio State’s first post-spring transfer is Jake Seibert.

“I want to express my gratitude to Coach (Ryan) Day and the coaching staff for believing in me and helping me grow both on an doff the field,” Seibert wrote in a message posted to social media Monday. “Ohio State has provided me with an incredible education and countless opportunities for personal and athletic development, and I will always be thankful.”

Seibert, who has three seasons of eligibility remaining, had an unusual tenure at Ohio State.

He arrived as a highly regarded recruit from state champion LaSalle High School in Cincinnati and spent the truncated 2020 season as the Buckeyes’ kicker as a true freshman.

Seibert made two of three field goal attempts that season and also went 16 for 16 on PAT kicks, but the Buckeyes brought in Noah Ruggles as a transfer the following spring, and Ruggles held down the job the last two seasons.

In the meantime, Seibert tried his hand at cornerback, and Ohio State brought in transfers Parker Lewis (USC) and Casey Magyar (Kent State) as well as 2022 high school recruit Jayden Fielding at kicker.

Five Buckeyes — all defensive players — announced prior to spring they were looking to transfer: Jaylen Johnson, JK Johnson, Javontae Jean-Baptiste, Teradja Mitchell and Jantzen Dunn.

With the spring transfer portal window now open, more movement is likely across the country.
